Compositor de simpatia liberal. Entrou para o Seminário Patriarcal em 1798 com 9 anos. Foi para o Rio de Janeiro onde se tornou músico da Real Capela. Regressou c. 1826 a Lisboa, tornando-se mestre de capela no mosteiro dos Jerónimos em Belém.

A composer with liberal sympathies. He entered the Patriarchal Seminary in 1798 at the age of 9. He went to Rio de Janeiro, where he became a musician in the Royal Chapel. He returned to Lisbon around 1826, becoming the master of the chapel at the Jerónimos Monastery in Belém.
